I do the cooking for Thanksgiving these days, so I don't have to worry about sweet potato pie. Leave the sweet potato alone, why cover it up with mini-marshmallows?

I don't understand candied yams, either. I mean...sweet potatoes are already sweet and wonderful with just a little butter and seasoning. Why the need to over-sweeten them, and make my teeth hurt?

I've got a sweet tooth, but still....yuck

Yams and sweet potatos are not quite the same, and yams are not always sweet, depending on the conditions under which they were grown. The really big yams can be dry, too, and really benefit from baking with some butter and sweetener.

OTOH, the only acceptable use for the marshmallows if loating them in hot chocolate.

Cause yams aren't really all that sweet. They taste much sweeter in a bath of water with brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, ginger and topped with mini-marshmallows baked down to a crust.

YUM.

lol. but yeah. T doesn't like them that way either. He's ok with the candied part, but not the marshmallow part.

Exactly! Sweet potatoes are perfect with just a little butter! I don't know why people pile all that shit on them.
