It probably says a great deal more about me than it ought to that I read that, noted the location, and thought:

"[shrug] Seems perfectly in context to me."

Given that I've never lived in New York as an adult, I have no idea where I picked up the typical New Yorker's indifference to stuff that other people are doing that does not directly impinge upon one's life.
