Midsummer musings

First, the mundane stuff. )

So, that's all the mundane stuff. Long trips are often eventful in some way, but this one was a bit more adventure than I like.

And now, the magical stuff )

All in all, a wonderful time spent with good friends that I don't get to see but once a year. I'm truly honored to have been a part of it. Thank you, Irene, Tom, Rebecca and all the other organizers. You made my year. :)

Writer's Block: You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch!

[Error: unknown template qotd]

I love Rudolph, The Grinch and I just saw Elf for the first time and thought it was cute. I don't really watch It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th St or any of the other classics.

Of course, there's my grandfather's movie, The Christmas That Almost Wasn't and the ever-wonderful A Christmas Story. Now that my daughter is grown, we don't really watch too many of the holiday specials anymore; she's not interested and I'll usually only watch if there's nothing else.

Writer's Block: Tinsel town

[Error: unknown template qotd]

I sure do, I love the look of a festive house. I usually start the week after Thanksgiving, putting up the wreaths and garland on the mantle (I have a mantle again this year!). The tree is usually up by the second week of December, if not the first.

It all comes down the first week of January. A month is long enough.

Knitting grump

I've been working on this cap for what seems like forever. I've screwed up, ripped back and screwed up again many times. I found an error in the pattern and the designer fixed it and I STILL messed up.

At least this time, I have a lifeline in so I didn't have to rip back to the beginning. But damn, it's frustrating. I decided to put it down for a bit and start on Christmas presents for the kids in my family (Brianna, my friends daughter; Cassie, Jared and Noah, my "grandkids".)

I'm making this for Brianna. She loves her American Girl doll, so having matching sweaters will be cute. I don't know if I'll be able to finish the child sweater in time, though, since the pattern is more advanced than I'm used to. I've just gotten to the part where I have to knit from two skeins at a time on the doll sweater, and it's a bit intimidating. Plus, it's thin yarn, so the bigger sweater will take a long time.

For Cassie, I have some of that crazy, fluffy fun yarn to make a scarf. That I can bang out in less than a day. Jared is getting a bag to tote his toys around in. I'm not sure about Noah, since he's just a baby...maybe I'll attempt my first toy. Or some kitschy Xmas thing.

When did knitting become my life? LOL
