I love Rudolph, The Grinch and I just saw Elf for the first time and thought it was cute. I don't really watch It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th St or any of the other classics.

Of course, there's my grandfather's movie, The Christmas That Almost Wasn't and the ever-wonderful A Christmas Story. Now that my daughter is grown, we don't really watch too many of the holiday specials anymore; she's not interested and I'll usually only watch if there's nothing else.

About the only Christmas special I'm willing to watch any more is the 1984 television production of Dickens' A Christmas Carol with the late George C. Scott in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, with a mob of wonderful British character actors in the principal supporting roles. Frank Finlay as Marley's Ghost and David Warner as Bob Cratchit are particularly good. And Scott was just fascinating in this role.

There are times in my life when I would consider watching Scott apply paint, and consider it time well-spent. Even the horrid writing in "Carrie" was made mostly forgiveable by him.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to burn me a copy of your grandfather's movie?

We always watch A Wish for Wings that Work. I'm waiting until Evan comes for a visit to do so.
