I just a letter from Social Security giving me a temporary password code so I can set up direct deposit, change information, etc.
It says to make sure I've received my notice of benefit payment or first payment before registering this password.
Ummmm...I have received any notice of benefit payment or anything. Am I to assume I've been approved? The website says that a decision has been made and I will be notified by mail.
I wonder if the two letters got crossed, and the approval letter is forthcoming. I can't imagine why I'd get this if I haven't been approved.
Believe me, I will be checking the mail DAILY. Cross your fingers for me, folks...
Oh, and I've officially become a knit freak. I got bored with the Dr. Who scarf (11 feet of garter stitch, holy shit), so I'm taking a break to make something for my friend's daughter. It's still a scarf, but I'll be attempting to cable and have a pretty rainbow colored skein, since I don't know what her favorite color is. Should be interesting, and I now have 2 projects pending.
Nuts.

Date: 2009-01-08 02:44 am (UTC)What I think is happening is that there is a two-step process:
Step 1 - Determine if applicant is entitled to benefits. If applicant is entitled to benefits, proceed to step 2.
Step 2 - Calculate amount of initial monthly benefit, then generate notification letter.
The government being the government, step 1 and step 2 are performed by different offices. The act of transmitting the information from the step 1 office to the step 2 office also triggers release of the letter you received.
BTW, if I wind up getting a job at Fort Hood in the next 90 days or so, I'm going to be some steamed if you immediately move to Alabama.

I always break throughout my longer projects with smaller quicker projects like the foxes and beavers.
